Events take place in the castle and park every weekend during our opening season, such as Steam Festival, Napoleonic Wars, Medieval Jousting, Teddy Bears Picnics, Family Days, Morris Dancing and Open Air Concerts and Theatre. The events will kick off with a bang over Easter as the cannon fire and our ‘living history’ soldiers siege the castle at twilight! Melton Mowbray Golf Club - Melton Mowbray - 9.45 miles
For more than 75 years golfers in the Midlands have enjoyed the tranquility and friendly company of Melton Mowbray Golf Club. An easy walking parkland course with many trees lining the fairways. Straight hitting and careful course management will always be rewarded here as well as a deft touch around the closely guarded but receptive greens. Situated a little more than a mile from the centre of the historic market town, famous for it's Stilton and traditional hand raised Pork Pies, the Course offers players of all standards a challenging but fair test across undulating fairways set amidst rolling Leicestershire countryside.

Rutland Water Nature Reserve - 10.98 miles
When the reservoir was constructed, various areas were set aside to cater for different types of leisure pursuits. At the eastern end, sailing and sailboarding are popular, while in the central section trout fishing takes place, both from boats and from the shore. The western part of the reservoir is set aside as a nature reserve, but throughout the year large numbers of waterbirds can be seen in all sections of the reservoir.
